Why a Malaysian Lasallian Youth Commission

It has been many years since the Formation Team was set up and it has always been an evolving body both in size of the membership and the shape it has taken over the years. But the Formation Team, despite being made up of many young, dynamic individuals has always been spearheaded by La Salle Centre in many if not all of its activities and the directions it has taken over the years.

In view of allowing the Formation Team members to take a more proactive role in the organisation, formulation, and execution of FT programmes, we are setting up the Malaysian Lasallian Youth Council.

Guiding Principles

The Commission is to be guided by the principles of consultative-decision making and are to act always in the spirit of collaboration and cooperation with La Salle Centre and the Formation Team members in all areas of concern. The Commission will be tasked with facilitating the process of organising and running of all FT programmes and will be accountable to the Formation Team and LaSalle Centre  with all suggestions to be submitted to and approved by LaSalle Centre before implementation.

1. To serve as a think-tank for Formation Team programmes

• To oversee and plan for Formation Team programmes (i.e Organising Team selection) including existing programmes i.e. Regional Lasallian Youth Conventions, L.E.A.D, Formation Team meeting 1 & 2.
• To help develop and constantly improve on Resource Materials and Guidelines for various needs of Formation Team programmes (i.e. Guidelines on Reflections, and Exposure activities.)

2. To explore a minimum of 1 new programme or activity annually to expand involvement of Formation Team members. This can be based on feedback and recommendations of Formation Team members.

Requirements of Service

i). Members of the Commission to serve a minimum of 1(one) year (1 term) and maximum of 2 (two) years (2 terms) each. Reappointment as Commission member after initial maximum term can take place after a lapse of 1 year.

ii). The Malaysian Lasallian Youth Commission is to hold its meetings quarterly every year.

Selection Process / Membership

Nominations of names are to be sent to the Youth Coordinator 2 weeks prior to the 1^st Formation Team meeting of the year and will be voted upon (if need be) at the 1^st Formation Team meeting of every year.

The Malaysian Lasallian Youth Commission is to be chosen by Formation Team members annually attending the 1^st Formation Team meeting of the year.

Requirement and eligibility to serve on the Commission is for an individual to have been an active Formation Team member for at least 2 years prior to being nominated.

Commission Set-up

The commission will be made-up of 4 Commissioners who will be chosen as above by the Formation Team and the Commission will be chaired by the Youth Services Coordinator of La Salle Centre. The Commisssion shall have equal gender-representation. The Commission can also co-opt an extra member into the Commission for that particular year if it deems necessary as per the need and suitability of the member to the task.
